The President of Volleyball Australia and leading businessman, Craig Carracher, has been appointed to the Executive of the Australian Olympic Committee.

AOC: The President of Volleyball Australia and leading businessman, Craig Carracher, has been appointed to the Executive of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) following the resignation of Russell Withers.

"Craig has received global recognition for his achievements in Volleyball and together with his extensive legal, corporate and investment experience no one is better qualified to join our Executive” John Coates, AOC President, said today.

Members of the Executive endorsed Craig’s nomination with a unanimous vote of confidence.

He will replace Russell Withers as a member of the AOC Finance Commission and the Audit and Risk Committee and join the Board of the Australian Olympic Foundation (AOF) and the AOF Investment Advisory Committee.

“The Executive recognised Craig’s impeccable business credentials and felt he will make a valuable long-term contribution to the Executive and the Board of the AOF” Coates said.

“Craig is devoted to his sport and is admired and respected by the athletes, officials and volunteers for his hands on approach. I am sure our other AOC member sports will applaud his appointment”.

He is highly regarded by the new President of the International Volleyball Federation for his work in Asian and Oceania volleyball” Coates said.

Craig put his law career on hold and became CEO and a Director of Volleyball Australia in the lead-up to the Sydney 2000 Games where Australia’s Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst won gold on the sands of Bondi Beach.

He has been a passionate leader of volleyball and beach volleyball since joining the Board of his local club in 1990. He played on the Australian Pro Beach Volleyball Tour from 1989 and has spent over twenty years transforming the sport on and off court.

During that time he pursued an investment and legal career working for leading law firms in the US, Australia and Asia, was a corporate partner at Minter Ellison following senior roles with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and working for the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court NSW.

Craig was Group General Counsel to the Packer family’s private investment group, Consolidated Press Holdings (CPH), its major investee companies and Head of Compliance for its investment funds including Ellerston Capital Limited. Craig has since founded and managed private equity funds and businesses with a focus on opportunities in China and Asia. His major current interests include student accommodation businesses and new technologies.
