Nagano Olympian and Torino aspirant Jo Carter and Australian National champion Brad Santer were the headline acts at the Night of Champions at Canterbury Ice Rink on August 8.
A packed house and more than a few VIPs enjoyed special guest Carter’s short program performance and Santer’s debut performance of his new free program. Santer will also be attempting to qualify for the 2006 Games, skating in the Karl Schaefer Memorial in Vienna in October.
Sydney Figure Skating Club members ran through their programs in the lead up to the National Championships in Perth this month, and National Synchro Champions Fire on Ice were also among the performers on the night, displaying both their Championship programs.
The guest list included NSW Minister for Sport, Sandra Nori, the NSW Shadow Minister for Sport, councillors from the Canterbury City Council and representatives from the Seven Network’s Sportsworld, and they were treated to some quality skating.
The event was staged by the Club to provide Club members with an opportunity to have their Championship programs assessed by leading Australian judges Wendy Langton and Debbie Noyes. Also on hand to review the performances was former Olympian Cameron Medhurst. (Story with the assistance of OzSkater Magazine)
