RUGBY SEVENS: Charlotte Caslick is going to need a bigger trophy cabinet.

With both Olympic gold and a World Series title to her name in 2016, the 21-year-old Queenslander can now add World Rugby Women’s Sevens Player of the Year to her long list of achievements.

Having been nominated for the award in both 2014 and 2015, it was a case of third time’s the charm for Caslick who has been in a league of her own over the past twelve months.

Caslick scored nine tries and set up many more as the scrum-half and her teammates became the first Australian side to win the World Series title.

From there it was on to the Rio 2016 Games where the side had only eyes for making more history as Sevens made its Olympic debut.

Caslick was a stand-out from the opening game, where she scored a hat-trick, to the final whistle of the gold medal match where she scored her seventh try of the competition to help her side seal top step on the podium.

"From the age of 17 to now 21, Charlotte has matured into the World's best player," Qantas Australian Women’s Head Coach Tim Walsh told rugby.com.au

"She is responsible for branding Women's Sevens Rugby with a flare, strength and a femine touch.

"A ruthless competitor with a relentless work ethic and possesing a mental toughness that only comes from being the best, Charlotte has consistently performed at a World Class level for over three years."

New Zealand’s Portia Woodman and England and Great Britain’s Emily Scarratt were the other two nominees for the awards.

South Africa’s Seabelo Senatla won the World Rugby Men’s Sevens Player of the Year award.
