SHOOTING: A big day of shooting wrapped up with China winning three of the five gold medals awarded.

China took out first place in the women’s 10 metre air pistol and the women’s and men’s rifle 3 position events.

Haoran Yang won the men’s rifle 3 position with 1253.7 points. Great Britain’s Michael Bamsey won silver (1243.4) and Malaysia’s Mohd Nurrahimin Abdul Halim was awarded bronze (1223.4).

Yang was excited to have won gold and to have the opportunity to be able to compete at the AYOF.

“I feel pretty honoured to be the winner in such a highly competitive contest like this here today,” Yang said.

China’s Jiali Hu won the women’s rifle 3 position with 661.1 points. Silver went to Ariel Arthur of Canada (647.0) and bronze to Larissa Sykes of Great Britain (645.2).

In other results, Malaysia won gold in the men’s 10 metre air pistol with Wen Yan Choo recording an overall score of 664.7. Silver went to China’s Hang Li with a score of 662.9 and Malaysia’s Abdul Hadi Abd Malek won bronze with 660.7.

New Zealand won gold and silver in the men’s double trap. Mason Reed took out first place with a score of 128 and Liam Buchannan was awarded silver with a score of 119. There was no bronze placing.

Shooting continues tomorrow with the men and women’s 10 metre air rifle and the men’s 25 metre rapid fire pistol.

Competition begins at 9:00am with Australians Tamsyn Henry and Jessica Tippins beginning their AYOF campaign in the 10 metre air rifle qualification round.
