Clean and consistent the key for Hennessy

“Consistency, consistency, consistency,” is what men’s artistic coach Sergeuei Chinkar wants to see from 15-year-old Brody-Jai Hennessy, in the All Around men’s gymnastics qualification today at the Youth Olympic Games.

“Consistency, consistency, consistency,” is what men’s artistic coach Sergeuei Chinkar wants to see from 15-year-old Brody-Jai Hennessy, in the All Around men’s gymnastics qualification today at the Youth Olympic Games.

“The competition is so strong that there is no room for mistakes,” Chinkar said.

“We have cut back a little of the difficulty and we can change that for the final. No mistakes is what is more important.”

Clean routines should be enough to qualify him for the coveted final on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old Brisbane student has been training so hard for this day where results also determine the finalists for each apparatus later in the week.

“My expectations aren’t that high,” Hennessy explained. “I am in the middle of the bunch and hopefully by executing well on all apparatus I’ll hopefully sneak in to the final.

“At the Nationals a few weeks ago I had several falls so that gets my bad comp for the year out of the way.”

Hennessy's is in the subdivision 1 starting at 1330 (1530 AEST) and first apparatus in the rotation will be the rings.

The 42 male gymnasts will perform on all six apparatus - Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar - and the athletes with the 18 top combined scores will get another shot on Wednesday.
