The President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) John Coates has paid tribute to sports broadcaster, David Fordham, who passed away after a long battle with cancer and heart disease.

“David loved his football, League and Union, but he was also passionate about the Olympics” Coates said.

“That passion shone through in his commentary, you could tell he loved it. Off the air he was always fun to be around, he was a fantastic after dinner speaker and MC and supported many our fund raising functions. Fordo will be sadly missed”.

“On behalf of everyone at the AOC and the entire Olympic community we send our deepest condolences to his family” Coates said.

David covered four Olympic Games Los Angeles, Seoul, Atlanta and Sydney and four Commonwealth Games. In 2008 the AOC acknowledged his enormous contribution to sport and the Olympic movement and awarded him the Olympic Order of Merit.
