The President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), John Coates, has been elected to the top job at the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS)
The President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), John Coates, has been elected to the top job at the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Coates was elected President of ICAS and CAS at a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, overnight.
He has been a member of ICAS since 1994 and Vice President since 1995.
Former International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice President and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) founding President, the Canadian IOC Member, Richard Pound QC, was the other candidate for the position.
Coates is currently a member of the IOC Executive Board and a member of its Juridical, TV Rights and New Media Commissions.
He is also heavily involved in future Olympic preparations as a member of the IOC’s Coordination Commissions for the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
