The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC), in collaboration with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Singapore Mint, today launched three Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010) coins to commemorate the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The three coins made of gold, silver and copper-nickel are valued at S$10, S$5 and S$2 respectively. The gold coin is designed to represent the golden moments athletes will experience at Singapore 2010, while the silver coin is Singapore’s first hologram coin with colour, created to celebrate the nation as the host city of the inaugural YOG. The copper-nickel coin is a new innovation made of bi-metal with colour.

The coins are sold individually. The silver coin can also be packaged together with a set of four silver-plated medallions, which are decorated with Singapore 2010 sport pictograms and orchids, a symbol of Singapore, to form a coin set.

A coin exhibition has been set up at the Olympic Superstore where the public can view the skilful craftsmanship and laborious minting process behind every Singapore 2010 coin. The public will also be able to catch a rare glimpse of the Singapore 2010 coins in different minted stages and the special minting tools that were used. The exhibition will be held from 29 June to 18 July at the Olympic Superstore.

As part of the celebration, the Olympic Superstore also welcomes Panasonic, the Official Audiovisual Display and Digital Partner of the Singapore 2010, to operate in one of the superstore booths. Panasonic will display their latest full High Definition (HD) 3D Home Theatre Systems for visitors to experience HD quality moving pictures as part of their shopping experience.

The issuing of Olympic coins has been a long standing tradition in the Olympic Games and Singapore is following this tradition as the host city of the first-ever YOG. For details on where to buy and order online, please visit www.singapore2010.sg/coins.
