Holly Crawford and Nathan Johnstone have both ridden to the finals of the halfpipe World Cup in La Molina, and although Crawford finished in a very creditable fifth place overall, neither of the AIS riders was able to reproduce their impressive qualifying form in the battle for the medals.
Crawford finished in second place in the women’s qualifying round with a best score of 39.0, just behind Norwegian rider Kjersti Buass on 39.5.
But in the two run final, her best ride earned 33.0 points from the judges, putting her into fifth place overall.
Buass went on to win the event with a best score of 43.5, from Chinese rider Liu Jiayu on 40.3 and Elena Hight of the USA on 36.3.
Johnstone laid down a best run of 40.1 points in his qualifying heat, to finish in fourth place in his group.
But he was also unable to produce his best in the final, scoring 33.4 points to finish in 10th place overall.
Swiss rider Markus Keller won the men’s event with a score of 43.5 points from Louie Vito of the USA on 41.4.
Hannah Trigger finished in 24th place scoring 22.4, while Ski and Snowboard Australia rider Ben Mates was 36th overall on 29.6 points and Scott James was in 47th place on 24.4 points.
