CROSS COUNTRY: Mr Consistent, Phil Bellingham, continued his strong World Cup form over the weekend with a 37th place finish in Poland.
Racing in Szklarska Poreba, Bellingham collected his best FIS points (52.93) in the Cross Country Sprint Freestyle Event.
“I felt good, everything went well and basically I skied as fast as I could,” Bellingham said after the race.
“It was my best ever World Cup result- but still just wasn't quite fast enough!”
Bellingham finished 59th in the 15km Classic Mass Start the next day- another good hit out ahead of the Sochi Games where he hopes to make his Olympic debut.
A determined competitor, in December last year Bellingham became the second Australia ever to start the Tour de Ski, the biggest event on the cross country skiing World Cup circuit. His form is building nicely ahead of the Games.
Fellow Sochi hopeful Aimee Watson was busy racing in Leysin, Switzerland at the National Championships. Watson was 11th in the 5km Classic and 14th in the 10km Freestyle Pursuit.
