CANOE/KAYAK SLALOM: Rio-bound canoe slalom paddler, Lucien Delfour, has made a strong start to his European campaign ahead of his Olympic debut for Australia later this year.
Delfour finished fourth in the K1 final of the Pyrenees Cup in Seu, Spain, with a gate touch relegating him from the medals.
Delfour had set the fastest time in qualifying runs on Saturday, and again showed speed in the semi-finals to qualify for the final in second position.
The 27-year-old finished the final in a time of 104.85 seconds, which included a two-second penalty for the gate touch. The gold medal was won by Germany’s Fabian Schweikert in a time of 104.04.
Tasmania’s Kate Echhardt finished fourth and Noemi Fox, the younger sister of London silver medallist, Jessica, sixth in the women’s K1 final, but positions were reversed in the C1 with Fox finishing fourth and Eckhardt seventh.
