Australia’s youngest and smallest athlete at the Youth Olympic Games starts her campaign on Tuesday.
Angela Donald, 14, from Melbourne will contest the All Around gymnastics qualification at the Bishan Sports Hall.
Australian coach Shaoyi Jiang is happy with Donald’s training and believes she is a chance to make the All Around final and some apparatus finals.
It is a big pressure competition and a great experience for these young athletes to see how they cope with the occasion.
“Training is going well but you need to be able to show it in the comp and that is especially important with this age group,” Jiang said.
“We have taken off some degree of difficulty so she can show her level and make clean and consistent routines.”
“Her beam looks like the best chance but all apparatus and the All Around are a chance.”
Forty-two athletes will contest the four apparatus in two groups. The 18 athletes with the best combined score will progress to Thursday’s final and the top 8 in each apparatus will go for medals on Sunday.
