YOG: Apart from taking on competitors from other countries, members of the Australian Youth Olympic Team have another thing to worry about – what to eat.

The Youth Olympic Village (YOV) is home to the one and only Dining Hall, which is open practically 24/7 and provides athletes with four different types of cuisine.

“I think the dining hall is great – you can go in whenever you want and so you can eat if you are hungry in the middle of the night,” Modern Pentathlete Max Esposito said.

Another bonus about the living in the YOV is that it’s home to a McDonalds. Yep, you heard it correctly, a McDonalds!

“I have not been to McDonalds yet as it has been too busy,” 17-year-old Esposito said.

For all of the athletes’ parents in Nanjing and back in Australia do not stress, as you can see your child will not starve.

The Dining Hall itself spreads across three floors and will serve more than 5000 athletes and officials every day.

The menu will be on a six-day rotation basis and will provided Asian, Mediterranean, European continental and Chinese meals.

“There are similar meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the dishes come from around the world.”

Eating different types of food and interacting with fellow athletes from other nations will be a great experience for the Team.

Nutrition is key for athletes and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is providing them with dietary and nutritional information through the Cultural and Education program as well as special meal orders for injured or sick athletes.

The Nutrition Kiosk will be open during the Youth Olympic Games and might be a good option for athletes who have binged on McDonalds.
