Check out what's happening this week in Olympic sport.

Tennis – Australian Open

The famed Australian Open will be played in Melbourne from Sunday 14th to Sunday 28th January, featuring 18 Aussies thus far.

Coming off a United Cup high, tenth seed Alex de Minaur is set to face off former world no.3 Milos Raonic (CAN) in the first round of the men’s singles tournament.

There are two all-Australian match-ups in the opening round; a Sydneysider showdown between world no.47 Jordan Thompson and world no.63 Aleksander Vukic, and a duel between world no.43 Alexei Popyrin and world No.156 Marc Polmans.

Eight Australian men’s players received direct acceptance into the singles draw, the highest number in 25 years.

The women have also been dealt an intriguing draw with four players pitted against top 50 players in the opening round.

Kimberly Birrell and Olivia Gadecki begin their respective campaigns against Grand Slam champions, whilst 18-year-old Taylah Preston will make her Grand Slam main-draw debut against 19th seed Elina Svitolina (UKR). Ajla Tomljanovic comes up against world no.40 Petra Martric (CRO).

Meanwhile the Australian Open qualifiers are providing more Aussies, including Storm Hunter, John Millman and Arina Rodionova, with the opportunity to win their way into the singles main draw.
