Gymnasts and skaters launch their World Championship campaigns, with Olympic quotas and world rankings on the line.
Artistic Gymnastics - World Championships
Aussie gymnasts are hoping to write history this weekend at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium from Saturday 30 September to Sunday 8 October.
The competition is a major chance for athletes and countries to earn quotas for Paris 2024 for individual and team events. Australia hasn’t qualified a gymnastics team at an Olympics since the women’s team at London 2012, and are hoping this weekend could be their chance, with the top nine unqualified country teams earning a quota spot for Paris 2024.
In the individual component, the top eight men and top 14 women in all-around qualifications will earn a quota spot by name. The top eligible athlete in each apparatus will also earn themselves a quota spot by name.

This puts Taliqua and Mariafe in a must win situation for their final pool match at midnight tonight (Friday AEST) to progress through to the knockout stages.
Tom Hodges and Zac Schubert unfortunately lost in straight sets (22-20 21-18) to Brazil’s Evandro Oliveira & Arthur Mariano and in a third set extended tiebreaker to Dutch pair Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot (21-15 18-21 20-18).
