Jessica Fox has bounced back to the winner’s circle with victory in the C1 final at the canoe slalom World Cup in Krakow.

CANOE: Jessica Fox has bounced back to the winner’s circle with victory in the C1 final at the canoe slalom World Cup in Krakow.

Fox went for speed over style in the final, and picked up three gate touches as a result – but her time was still good enough to take the gold by more than three seconds from British paddler, Kimberley Woods.

“I had a lot of spins and they were not all to plan,” Fox said.

“And I lost a bit of time down the bottom, but again I took some touches when my lines were too tight, but I do think I gained some time when I did hit those gates, so I think it was quite a challenging course today.”

Fox’s raw time was a blistering 97.19 seconds, but with six seconds in penalties it pushed her time to 103.19.

Last week 21-year-old Fox, the reigning World Champion, had to settle for C1 and K1 silver in the opening World Cup of the season in Prague.

She’ll contest the semi-finals of the K1 tomorrow.

Fox’s younger sister, Noemie, finished sixth in the C1 final in her World Cup debut, while another Australian, Ros Lawrence, finished ninth.

Lucien Delfour finished seventh in the final of the men’s K1, an encouraging result ahead of this year’s World Championships.
