Logan Martin wins Dad of the Year Award

After winner an historic gold medal in Tokyo defying gravity to be crowned the inaugural BMX freestyle Olympic champion, Logan Martin has again put himself on the winner's podium by sweeping a red hot field to become the most popular ever winner of the Sports Dad of the Year award.

Logan has become the first Olympian to be crowned Australia’s favourite sports dad, and breaks a stranglehold of past winners from NRL, AFL, Cricket and Supercars.

“This honestly feels amazing,” Logan said. “It was such an honour to even be a finalist and to win it is unreal!

“You could say I’ve been on a bit of a high for a couple of months now and it’s definitely an amazing feeling to win this award straight after winning gold at the Olympics!”

Logan beat a field which included NRL stars Daly Cherry-Evans, Dale Finucane, Aaron Woods and Thomas Burgess, AFL champions Ben Brown and Mitch Robinson, Supercars Mr Popular Dave Reynolds, fellow Olympian and hockey silver medallist from Tokyo Jack Whetton and Wallabies flyer Marika Koroibete.

The win means Logan gets a chance to donate $5,000 to a charity that is close to him – Lung Foundation Australia.

“My dad has emphysema and has been having a hard time dealing with it the past few years,” Logan said.

“This charity can help people in the future who are like my dad and unfortunate enough to experience what he’s now going through.

“The money will help them with their research on lung diseases and potentially help improve the quality of life for people with lung issues.”

After such a tough schedule recently culminating in the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, Logan is planning to have a relaxing Father’s Day on the Gold Coast with wife Kimberly, two-year-old son Noah and family including his parents and brother’s family.

“We are going to catch up for breakfast then head down the beach for the morning so Noah can play with his cousins,” Logan said.

“They are yet to all be at the beach together and Noah loves playing with his cousins so it should be a great morning.”
