CYCLING: London 2012 Olympian Shara Gillow (QLD) grabbed bronze in the women’s team time trial, with the reigning Australian individual time trial champion part of Rabo-Liv’s six-rider squad.

“I have a silver and a couple bronze medals now,” Gillow told Cycling Australia after claiming her third medal in the event having secured silver and bronze medals previously with ORICA-AIS. “It’s nice to get a medal with Rabo, but we were going for the gold. We worked really hard for it, and we did everything we could to get the best out of each of us.”

Third at the first intermediate time check, Rabo-Liv would prove third-fastest in Richmond. Velocio-SRAM took a fourth straight title six seconds ahead of Boels-Dolmans. GIllow and her teammates rounded out the podium at 56 seconds.

“We weren’t as smooth as we would have liked,” admitted Gillow. “From the start, we weren’t as good as we were in Sweden. The positive thing is that there are so many areas that we can do better, and I know we’re all looking forward to having another crack.”

Gillow heads home to Queensland on Monday for a well-deserved break before she begins to prepare for another Australian summer of racing.

“I’m excited to head home,” said Gillow. “It’s been nine months away. I’ll take a little bit of a break before it’s straight back into it.”

Nettie Edmondson (SA) rode with Wiggle Honda to fourth place, only 14 seconds off the podium.

An all Aussie ORICA-AIS squad managed seventh place racing with first year pros Macey Stewart, Lizzie Williams, Sarah Roy and the more experienced Gracie Elvin, Katrin Garfoot and Amanda Spratt.
