Matthew Goss has claimed the points classification and led home the bunch to claim second in the sixth and final stage of the Vuelta Navarra in Spain.

The 120.9km stage from Huarte to Pamplona was won by Italian Davide Bragazzi (team Endeka) in a time of 2hr57min41sec with 19 year-old Goss crossing five seconds later.

The result caps of a very successful tour for the South Australia.com - AIS team which scored three stage wins, two for Goss and one to Simon Clarke, 19, in the six day event.

Clarke finished in seventh place overall, 1min36sec behind tour winner Jesus Tendero (Vina Magna - Cropu).

Goss and Clarke are having sensational seasons. In April, Goss was part of Australia’s World Championship winning 4000m pursuit team to avenge the loss to Britain at the Commonwealth Games.

He also placed third in the Biondi Italian Elite race, won the prestigious GP Liberazione in Rome for U/23 riders and won stage one of the Giro delle Regioni. It was here that Clarke won the Best Young Rider classification and finished the Tour ranked fourth overall.

At just 16, Goss competed in the 2003 Australian Youth Olympic Festival where he placed sixth in the keirin.
