Greig's return to top form

SPEED SKATING: Having made it into A Division off the back of a silver medal in Kazakhstan last weekend, Long Track speed skater Daniel Greig took advantage of his position in the fourth World Cup in The Netherlands early this morning.
In a time of 35.08, Greig raced to 15th in the Heerenveen World Cup collecting 14 ranking points in the 500m, which was won by Russian Ruslan Murashov in 34.50.
Greig said his return to form was welcome after recovering from bi-lateral knee injuries last season but that his race execution could have been better.
“In terms of execution, it was actually, not a great race,” Greig said this morning.
“I made some mistakes that cost me time.
“The silver lining is that it seems my world top level has returned. I’ve put down two competitive 500m races in a row now.
“What I feel like I need now is for my muscle memory to get used to the speed so I can take another step up the ranking.”
Greig is ranked 26th in the 500m after this morning’s race. His 1000m event starts at 1:12am AEDT on Monday.
