The Harry Gordon Memorial Award recognises outstanding journalism at an Olympic Games. Entries are now open for coverage of the Beijing Games and will close on Friday 11 March, 2022.
It will be presented at the AOC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in late April 2022 and incorporates consideration of news coverage of both the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games held in 2021 and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
In other words, the independent Panel will judge entries across both Games before determining the winner of the award for this year. Entries for coverage of the Tokyo Games closed last year.
The Award will be announced via media release prior to the AGM with the winner awarded $5,000 and a commemorative trophy.
The AOC is not seeking to compete with other established and prestigious awards across numerous categories and specialist skills, however it does seek to acknowledge the skills that Harry Gordon exemplified through excellence in the written word.
Accordingly, the Harry Gordon Memorial Award is a consideration of news journalism across the following categories:
- Print/online news & magazine
- Television news
- Radio news
- Blogs that provided a regular & ongoing news-oriented narrative on an Olympic Games
Each applicant can submit no more than two articles for consideration, including any article that is co-authored. Applications should be made via email with the relevant article in a digital format with a covering letter.
Articles must have been published or broadcast on established news platforms/programs.
Television or radio program production pieces are not eligible. The award is for news journalism.
Applicants must have been officially accredited for the relevant Games or had been on specific assignment to cover the Games.
A three-person independent panel will consider the applications and will agree on the winning entry.
