CYCLING – MOUNTAIN BIKE: Dual Olympian Rebecca Henderson has claimed her second best ever career World Cup result after crossing the line fifth at the Albstadt event in Germany overnight.
The Canberra rider, who was back in 11th at the half-way mark of the six lap elite women’s race, would pick off riders at will and take advantage of a crash by world champion Annika Langvad to move into the top five with one lap remaining.
It’s the second top 10 finish this year for Henderson, after placing 8th in the opening World Cup in Nové Mesto.
Fellow Australians Sarah Riley and Eliza Kwan finished 69th and 71st while Kelly Bartlett failed to finish.
In the men’s race three-time Olympian Dan McConnell finished in 31st.
The next UCI XC round will be July 1-2 in Vallnord, Andorra, as the riders continue to build for the 2017 World Championships to be held in Cairns in early September. More info here>>
