The two Olympic hockey gold medals belonging to three-time Olympian Katrina Powell OAM have been returned, 22 days after being stolen from a safe in her Perth home.
Powell’s husband Scott Goodheart informed the Western Australian Olympic Council today that the medals have been located.
They were deposited within a plastic bag into a Post Box in Perth suburb, Hamilton Hill.
Goodheart is thrilled with the news and very grateful that the offer from AOC President John Coates to replace the medals will not be required.
Powell is currently with the Hockeyroos in the United States in a coaching capacity. The Canberra born striker, known as Triny, retired as a player after Athens.
The former Australian captain scored 141 goals and represented Australia 252 times between 1994 and 2004. Powell represented Australia at the Atlanta Games in 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.
She was a pivotal member of the Hockeyroos teams that won gold in 1996, 2000 and placed fifth in Athens.
