NSWIS/SSA mogul skier Roanna Humphries has finished her overseas competition season in the best possible way, winning the Europa Cup mogul event in Chatel, France.

In collecting Europa Cup gold, Humphries, from Perisher Blue, became the first Australian since Anna Segal in January 2004 to achieve such a feat. The result concludes a successful tour for Humphries, who also collected a bronze medal at the first event in Slovenia.

Also impressing at the event was 14-year-old Falls Creek skier Britteny Cox, who posted an impressive qualifying result of third place in the single moguls.

In the dual mogul event, Perisher Blue skier Sarah Melvile narrowly missed out on a podium result, finishing in fourth place.

Hugh Norton had the leading results out of the Australian male athletes at the event, finishing in a personal best Europa Cup placing for the Mt Buller skier of seventh in the dual moguls, and 15th in single moguls. 14-year-old Perisher Blue skier Matthew Graham was the next best Australian in both events, finishing in ninth place in dual moguls, and 21st in single moguls.

After the event, NSWIS/SSA Head Coach Peter “Toppa” Topalovic commented:

“Overall it was a great event for the Australian team, with several personal best results achieved, none more so then Roanna Humphries and her fantastic victory coming from 11th place in qualifying”.

“This is without a doubt the strongest mogul team we have ever assembled for Europa Cup, and I could not be any happier right now with the progress made by all of the athletes”.
