ALPINE SKIING: After back to back top 20 performances at Lillehammer 2016, Katie Parker has failed to finish the Giant Slalom at Hafjell Olympic Slope.
Parker, like many of her competitors, was unable to complete her first run on the course in the tough conditions but in true Parker fashion she left it all out there.
“I skied the top well but it got icier down the bottom,” said the 17-year-old from Melbourne. “I wasn’t ready for the ice and I leaned in.
“I was super excited for this race but bad luck I guess.”
Coach Johannes Hassler reiterated just how tough it was out on course.
“It’s super icy out there, one mistake and your done.
“She has another chance in two days.”
That chance will be in the slalom event on Thursday.
“Tomorrow is a day off so I will probably come out and support Louis (Muhlen) and then the slalom which I am ready for.”
The event was won by Switzerland's Melanie Meilliard, with her teammate Aline Danioth claiming bronze and German Katrin Hirtl-Stanggassinger settling for silver.
