PYEONGCHANG 2018: US snowboarder Jamie Anderson has become the first woman to win two Olympic gold medals in slopestyle after taking out the top spot in the women’s final on Monday at Phoenix Snow Park.
The 27-year-old, who had a best score of 83.00, was joined on the podium by Canada’s Laurie Blouin who claimed silver with 76.33 and Finland’s Enni Rukajarvi who took bronze with 75.38.
“I’m feeling so happy,” Anderson said.
“I’ve gone through so much this last year just preparing for the Games and defending the gold is definitely not an easy position to be in
“I had a lot of pressure and I’m just so proud of myself. It was really tough conditions today and a lot of people were struggling.”
In the men’s moguls final, gold medal favourite Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) finished in the top spot on the podium while 23-year-old Matt Graham claimed silver, Australia’s first medal of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. Find out more on the men’s moguls HERE.
The figure skating team event concluded at Gangneung Ice Arena on Monday with Canada winning its fifth gold medal in the sport.
Canada’s ice dancers, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, said that the “energy was just incredible” as they skated to gold.
“We believed in ourselves. We are really proud about the energy we brought and it helped in winning the gold medal,” Moir said.

"We are really proud of each other and it is great to be part of this team. I think for being a member of Canadian skating, it's a long history of greats who came before us, who didn't have team events. We kind of stand on the shoulders of those champions."
Joining Canada on the podium were Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) who claimed silver while the US finished the event with bronze.
Ireen Wust from the Netherlands won gold in the women’s 1500m speed skating, while Japan’s Miho Takagi claimed silver and Wust’s fellow countrywoman Marrit Leenstra took bronze.
At the Alpensia Biathlon Centre, Germany’s Laura Dahlmeier became the first woman to win the biathlon sprint event and pursuit event at a single Olympic Winter Games after she claimed victory on Monday.
"After my first gold medal (Saturday) I couldn't sleep, I was so full of adrenaline. So last night I was just so tired I slept really well, I only got up at 12 and it was really light in our room," Dahlmeier said.
