Organisers of the 2012 London Olympics were handed a list of deadlines today that officials want met in the run-up to the Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) want plans for the facilities and venues to be finalised by 2007 with construction starting in 2008.

Next year London should, according to the timetable, agree a marketing and sponsorship plan with the IOC, embark on the design of a logo, establish a budget and finalise transport requirements.

Speaking after an 'orientation seminar' with 2012 organisers in London, IOC Olympic Games executive director Gilbert Felli told a news conference: "The master schedule we have provided is a big step forward for the organising committee and the IOC. It is a guideline of what we have to do over the next seven years.

"We started this with Sydney (host of the 2000 Olympics) in order to understand what has to be done every month up to the Games.

"It is a time-line of milestones that need to be met for the Games to be delivered on time."
