The Seven Network has been recognised by the International Olympic Committee as the leader in the coverage of the Olympic Games.
Seven has been awarded the highest honour - the gold award in the Olympic Golden Rings, a prestigious international competition in which the International Olympic Committee seeks to promote and award excellence in television coverage of the Olympic Games.
The Olympic Golden Rings are awarded by an international jury every two years and were presented in Lausanne, Switzerland overnight by the President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge.
In all Seven won gold, silver and bronze in three of the four broadcasting categories – competing against television networks around the world in the biggest sports event on television, an Olympic Games.
Seven’s gold medal comes in the most highly-contested category – The Best Olympic Programme – recognising best overall coverage of the XX Olympic Winter Games in Torino earlier this year.
Seven defeated the American television network, NBC, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and all other international television networks.
Seven was also recognised with a silver award in the category: The Best Olympic Feature.
NBC won gold in this category. And in a great recognition of Seven’s technology and production capabilities, Seven was awarded in the category: Best Olympic Sports Production.
This category recognises the many international television networks and production companies brought in by the Olympic Winter Games host broadcaster to mount coverage of specific sports.
In Torino, a team from Seven produced for the host broadcaster, the international coverage of the freestyle skiing and aerials. Seven was in fine company, winning a bronze.
The European Broadcasting Union (a consortium of all European television networks) won gold and silver in the category.
