The President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, arrived in Torino today for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games which start on February 10.

In the week leading up to the Opening Ceremony President Rogge will chair the 118th IOC Session which will be attended by Australia’s three IOC members, Kevan Gosper , Phil Coles and John Coates.

It is believed the decision to drop softball and baseball from the Olympic program at the London 2012 Olympics will be discussed again by the IOC Members.

On his arrival Rogge said, "I am extremely happy to be in Torino and eager for the Games to begin in a week. We know the organisers will be ready for the Opening Ceremony. We are excited and waiting for excellent Games."

Meanwhile, welcome news for Games organisers as growing demand at the box office pushed ticket sales for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games past 700,000 yesterday.

The strong sales, worth around €60million (compared to a target of €64 million) are in part boosted by the opening of the new Main Ticketing Centre in Piazza d’Armi.
