“This is the right decision. It would not have been a fair race. It is too hard in these conditions,” German head coach, Wolfgong Maier said.
His comments were supported by Switzerland’s Martina Schild, who won silver in the downhill at the Torino Games.
“You could not see from one gate to another,” she said.
“It was good they postponed the race today.”
Fog drifted across the course, forcing the postponement.
“With the fog you can’t see more than two or three gates and it’s a real problem,” Austrian head coach Roland Brunner said.
Fifty-eight competitors will contest the one-run event on the 2500m course.
Super-G – short for super-giant slalom – is the newest addition to Alpine ski racing.
Skiers, reaching speeds of 100 kmh, use long and medium sweeping turns to weave through alternate blue and red gates. The fastest athlete from the single run is awarded the gold medal.
