SNOWBOARD - HALFPIPE: Stephanie Magiros has flown the flag for Australia in the first heat of the women’s Halfpipe and placed ninth (57.35) to grab the last spot for the semi-final.

“I’m already stoked to be here and to make the top 20. It’s the best I could have asked for,” she said.

While Magiros was all smiles, there was disappointment for her teammates Hannah Trigger and Holly Crawford.

Three-time Olympian, Crawford, is still recovering from a crash three weeks ago, in which she broke her left wrist, banged her knee and cracked some ribs.

“It's not ideal, but it’s pretty funny being in two casts, two weeks out from the Olympics,” she said bravely.

The 30-year-old showed off her great tricks and amplitude but wasn’t able to deliver a clean run. She placed 14th (43.00) and says she's not giving up on her career just yet.

“I’m going to see how the body goes. I’m not finished with snowboarding by any means."

Olympic debutant, Trigger was the third Australian in the pipe. She produced two safe runs but didn't have the tricks to see her progress to the next round, finishing one spot behind Magiros, just outside of qualifying in 10th (51.25).

“I’m gutted. I landed my 7 and did a cab 3 after, but caught my toes in the slush on the finish line and completely collapsed,” Trigger said.

American gold medal favourite Kelly Clark produced two fantastic runs of 92.25 points and 95.00, to progress straight to the final. Spain’s Queralt Castellet was also outstanding with 93.25 and Sophie Rodriguez of France also progressed to this evening’s final with 78.50 points.

Australia’s defending Olympic champion Torah Bright will go in the second heat commencing at 4pm local time (11pm AEDT). The top three progress straight to the final and four to nine to the semi-final.
