Russell Mark (VIC) has finished fourth in the final of the men’s double trap at the Fiocchi Grand Prix in Maribor, Slovenia.
In windy conditions at the 2009 World Championships range, Mark shot a qualifying score of 140, before recording 44 in the final to finish on an overall score of 184.
The 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games gold medallist entered the final in third place but was unable to reel in defending Olympic champion Glenn Eller (USA) who won a shoot off for the gold medal after finishing on 189.
Mark, who is aiming to compete at his sixth Olympic Games next year, was using the event as a warm up for the World Cup event on the same range next week and gained valuable experience in the fluctuating conditions.
Mark’s qualifying score of 140 gave him another Performance Qualifying Score (PQS), a score which is deemed the minimum requirement to be considered for selection on an Australian team.
Australia has yet to qualify a quota for the men’s double trap at the 2012 London Olympic Games but have three remaining opportunities – the Slovenia World Cup (July 7-16), the ISSF World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia (September 5-13) and the Oceania Championships in Sydney (November 26-December 1).
Lauryn Mark (VIC) will compete in the women’s skeet on Sunday 3 July, before the duo are joined by the remainder of the Australian team for the start of the World Cup.
