Tokyo 2020 - Australian Basketballer Patty Mills

BASKETBALL: Could this be Medal time for the Australian Boomers in Tokyo?

Coach Goorgian is back at the helm for the first time since 2008, Mills and Ingles for the fourth time, Baynes and Dellevadova for the third, Goulding for his second and seven debutants.

It starts today against the might of Nigeria who we defeated in the lead up 108 to 69 in Las Vegas.

In the win against Nigeria guns Mills, Ingles, Dellavadova and Baynes were all rested - soo too Nigeria not showing their full-hand.

The Nigerian coach giving the Boomers high praise when he said they are one of the best teams in the world and a real shot at a gold medal.

The victory over the US and Argentina in Vegas will also do our confidence a world of good, particularly with such a short preparation.

There’s a few hurdles to get through before thinking about those lofty heights.

Most that have been watching our talented men’s basketball team over the years would be happy with a medal of any colour but all members of this current team have openly said the colour they want is gold!

Could this be the year the Boomers step onto the podium!

Former player Andrew Bogut says yes and it comes back to the fact they have strength throughout the squad and it doesn’t come down to one or two.

It all starts tonight against Africa’s number one ranked basketball team and they will come ready to play.

Nigeria is jammed pack full of NBA stars and also defeated the USA in Vegas so will also bring both form and confidence.

Also in the Australian pool Italy and Germany.
