FREESTYLE SKIING: Men's moguls is heating up after the first round of qualifying had some spectacular action, with the Aussies narrowly missing out on direct qualification.

There are just 10 spots remaining for the men’s moguls final, as the top 10 from the first qualifying run having automatically cemented their place in Saturday night’s final.

In the first round of qualifying three Aussies - Brodie Summers, Cooper Woods and James Matheson - finished 11th, 13th and 20th respectively.

PyeongChang 2018 silver medallist Matt Graham did not finish his first qualifying run and will also be lining up determined to secure his spot in tonight’s final.

Brodie is ready and feeling good ahead of tonight’s do or die sessions. Yesterday he had a strong training session and the conditions look good for an exciting night on the course.

“I feel really good. I went out there on the training day yesterday and worked out a few of the kinks in the first day of the qualification,” Brodie said.

“I have a lot of fun out there on the course. I woke up this morning feeling good, feeling refreshed, the weather looks beautiful and the snow conditions are really good here.

“So we know what to expect, it’s going to be cold so we have to rug up.

“The course builders here have done a really great job and have put together a really great track for us to ski.

“It’s quite a technical course so you’ve got to figure out the intricacies and dial those in. But I feel like each of us are working hard on the runs we have been training all year and getting them ready for this course.”

All athletes that successfully make it through the second round of qualifying will back up in the men’s finals on the same night.

The 20 finalists will run in reverse order (with the 20th ranked skier starting the final). There are three runs in the men’s finals. After the first run the field will be cut to 12, run two will further reduce the field to 6 and the final run will determine the medals.

The second round of qualifying beings at 9pm AEDT, with the final starting at 10:30pm AEDT on Channel 7 and 7plus.
