Alex Merriman has matched the best result of his career, skating to 11th place in the 1500 metres in Saguenay, Canada. Merriman had also finished 11th in the Korean leg of the World Cup in October, over the same distance. Competing in just his third senior event, the Brisbane 17-year-old qualified second in his preliminary round to go straight through to the semifinals. In the semis he placed fourth, then was fourth again in the B final for the overall placing of 11th.

Merriman was also the best of the Australian team in the 1000m, finishing in 23rd place.

Of the other OWI skaters, Ben Southee posted the best placing in the 500m, finishing in 21st position, two spots clear of team-mate Elliot Shriane. Shriane was also 22nd in the second 500m event of the meet.

Lachlan Hay skated his way through to the repechage A final in 1500m, finishing 23rd, and the men's 5000m relay team placed 10th.

In the women's, Emily Rosemond made the repechage B final in 500m, ending in 18th place and she also placed 23rd in the 1000m.
