Seven Aussies will take to the tennis courts at Ariake Tennis Park today, including three singles players and both women’s doubles pairings.
Millman, Australia’s top ranked male charge in Tokyo, will face off against sixteenth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain for a place in the third round. The pair have never played against each other and sit at 44 and 34 in the men’s rankings respectively.
Australia’s No.2 ranked female Ajla Tomljanovic will meet world No.6 Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine on Court 2. Although Svitolina leads their head to head count 3-0, the pair have not played each other since Roland Garros in 2018.

World No.190 Max Purcell, who outpowered ninth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) on centre court yesterday after a last-minute call up to the men’s singles draw, will meet top 60 player Dominik Koepfer of Germany. Purcell, who won the ATP Challenger event in Kazakhstan last week and made the semifinals of Eastbourne as a qualifier before Wimbledon, is relishing in the opportunity to play singles at the Olympics.
In the last matches of the day, sixth seeds Ash Barty and Storm Sanders will face off against Yifan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang of China in the women’s doubles.
Sam Stosur and Ellen Perez, who came back from a set down to defeat Latvian pair Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova yesterday, will take on Romanian pair Monica Niculescu and Raluca Olaru in their second-round match.
