Mogul Skiing - how is it judged?
The Australian mogul skiers look great in our eyes, but more importantly, what do the judges think, and what are they looking for?

MOGUL SKIINg: Current World Champion Britt Cox headlines a strong Australian mogul contingent competing at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games tonight.

The Australian mogul skiers look great in our eyes, but more importantly, what do the judges think, and what are they looking for?

Many of the freestyle skiing and snowboarding disciplines are judge based sports, and have a detailed criteria for the judges to evaluate the athletes.

In mogul skiing, athletes are scored out of 100 points, with the breakdown coming from turns 60 points, air 20 points and speed 20 points.

Judges evaluate turns and air, with the speed points allocated based on a formula, that takes the athletes run time compared to the paceset time, which is based on the course length and an expected metre per second formula.

The five turn judges give a score out of 20, and evaluate carving, absorption and upper body.

The two air judges give a score out of 10 each, and look at the athletes amplitude, quality of execution and landing, and then the score is multiplied by the tricks degree of difficult.

Australia has one judge on the mogul skiing panel, Zoe Jaboor from Mt Buller, which is her second Olympics.

Britt Cox has automatically qualified fo the first final after placing sixth in the first qualification run on Friday. Jakara Anthony, Madii Himbury and Claudia Gueli all have another chance to qualify for tonight's final in the second qualification run coming up right before the finals.

Qualification 2 kicks off at 7pm local time (9pm AEDT) and the first final is on at 9pm (11pm AEDT)
