Damon Morton and Jill Colebourn have reaffirmed themselves as Australia’s leading biathletes at the Victorian Championships.

BIATHLON: Damon Morton and Jill Colebourn have reaffirmed themselves as Australia’s leading biathletes at the Victorian Championships.

Morton began his strong weekend by taking out the 11.6km Mass Start event in a time of 37:22 with five shooting penalties. Morton defeated his father and 2006 Olympian Cameron by just over two minutes with Jeremy Flanagan in third.

Morton then won the 10km Sprint in a time of 32:10 with Flanagan taking the silver and Grigorii Kazantcev claiming the last spot on the podium.

In the women’s events, Colebourn claimed victory over her sole rival, Sabrina Howell, in the open women’s Mass Start event before again defeating Howell in the 7km Sprint.

2016 Youth Olympian Darcie Morton was the only entrant in the women’s U19 Sprint which she finished in just under 21 minutes with five penalties.

In total there were 43 participants across the two days of competition.

Athletes will now turn their focus to the Australian Championships on August 12 and 13.
