Cameron Morton has had his best result of the season at the right time, in the 2005 World Championships in Hochfilzen, Austria.
Morton finished in 60th place in the distance event among a field of 115 competitors.
After missing three targets in the first two laps of the event, the Australian came home strongly with two clear rounds of shooting to set a time of 1 hour nine minutes and 26.3 seconds, nine minutes 01.8 behind gold medallist Roman Dostal of the Czech Republic.
Germans Michael Greis and Ricco Gross claimed the minor medals.
Eleven misses cost the other Australian in the field, Mark Raymond, any hope of a good placing.
In the sprint event earlier in the championships, Morton had finished in 95th place in the time of 29:34.8 with five misses. Raymond was in 105th place.
The sprint was won by Norwegian legend Ole Einar Bjoerndaled with a time of 24:37.5, from Sven Fischer of Germany and Ilmars Bricis of Latvia.
Bjoerndalen also won the men’s pursuit and the mass start, and had another faultless round in anchoring the Norwegian men’s 4x7.5 relay team gold medal.
