Paul Murray has achieved the best international result of his career with a 38th place in the Sprint World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden. Murray was just 2 seconds from qualifying for the final 16, and half a second from scoring World Cup points.
The Falls Creek skier claimed the scalps of many top World Cup skiers from the starting field of 63.
The result is also one of Australia's best cross country skiing World Cup placings, just behind the 37th recorded by Anthony Evans in Ramsau in 1998.
The 1.1km classic sprint event was held around the King's Castle in the "Gamla Stan" (old town) section of Stockholm.
Murray will contest a World Cup Sprint in Trondheim on Tuesday and another in Drammen on Thursday. Long distance specialist Ben Derrick will make his season World Cup debut next Saturday in the 50km freestyle in Holmenkollen - possibly the most famous World Cup event on the circuit.
