The Matildas will play host team China in the fourth and must-win match of their 2012 London Olympic Games Asian qualification campaign.

The fourth-placed Matildas will take on third-placed China on 8 September at the Jinan Olympic Sports Centre, China, as they aim to improve their qualification chances.

Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni said the next two games were critical, but that the Matildas have the resilience and determination to succeed.

“The next two games are games that we obviously need to win to have an opportunity to qualify, and they’re going to be equally as difficult as the DPR Korea and Japan games,” Sermanni said.

“It’s easy to turn up and be confident and play when things are going smoothly for you,” he said.

“The real test of the team and the staff is how we handle things when there’s a bit of adversity. The key to these next two games is how we handle ourselves. Normally we’re a very resilient group of players, and I’ve got complete faith that these qualities will manifest themselves in these last two games.”

The Matildas will play a total of five matches in 11 days. The teams that finish in the top two will book berths at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The Matildas were defeated 0-1 by both DPR Korea and Japan. They defeated Thailand 5-1 and will meet South Korea in their fifth and final match.
