Two of the three giant metal sculptures that sat atop Sydney’s Centrepoint Tower for the 2000 Olympics are making their new home in Canberra.

The sculptures of a gymnast and a wheelchair basketballer, each 12 metres high and 3-4 tonnes in weight, are currently being erected at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

These sculptures, together with that of a sprinter, resided on the Centrepoint Tower as part of AMP’s contribution to the Olympic Games. After their removal in 2002, by helicopter sky crane, AMP gave them to the nation, to be installed in the capital city, as a permanent reminder of the highly successful and joyous Sydney Olympics. The sculpture of the sprinter can now be found in Sydney’s Olympic Park.

The AIS sculptures are expected to be officially “unveiled” in June 2003.
