The Australian Olympic Committee is pleased to announce News Corp Australia have signed as a Partner of Australian Olympic Teams through until 2020.

AOC: The Australian Olympic Committee is pleased to announce News Corp Australia have signed as a Partner of Australian Olympic Teams through until 2020.

This sponsorship will assist the AOC fund summer teams to Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2020), as well as the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Team and Youth Olympic Teams over the next five years.

This partnership represents a return to the Olympic family for News Corp, following their sponsorship of the amazing Sydney 2000 Torch Relay.

AOC President and IOC Vice President John Coates welcomed the commitment from News Corp to formally invest in the Olympic Movement in Australia again.

“Thank you News Limited this a very important partnership that brings us back together for the first time in a formal way since 2000 when News was the official partner for the torch relay,” Coates said.

“And such a successful torch relay you brought that to the people of Australia and told the story of everyone who was a participant in it.

The partnership announcement comes at an exciting time for the Australian Olympic Committee with less than nine months to go until Rio 2016 and as the ASPIRE #RoadToRio series commences nationally with Australian athletes and officials.

“The Rio Games will be spectacularly successful against a most spectacular backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world,” Coates said.

“You’ll have a lot to write about and a lot to cover. We are very appreciative of this partnership as it also gives us the opportunity to promote the values of the Olympics which is very important to us.”

News Corp will be activating the partnership through its national newspapers, digital channels and social media. The initial focus for News Corp will be its digital coverage of the Rio 2016 Games from Brazil.

The Games start on August 5 however News Corp has committed to a 10-week countdown to tell the stories of the athletes who will represent Australia at the first Games in South America.

The sponsorship announcement was supported by Olympic swimming legend Liesel Jones, dual water polo Olympian Richie Campbell, world rowing siver medallist Cameron Grindlestone and rugby sevens star Tiana Penatani. Campbell, Girdlestone and Penitani are all working hard to earn selection for Rio 2016.

It is costing $23 million dollars to send the 2016 Australian Olympic Team to Rio and this would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors.
