The Olympic flame is now two-thirds of the way to its destination – the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Over the last month, the Olympic flame has journeyed through Canada’s largest province, Quebec. The flame reached the province’s capital, Quebec City, on day 35 and was met with great celebrations and even a marriage proposal from a torchbearer to his girlfriend.
On day 41, as the relay approached the French-Canadian city of Montreal, the flame stopped off for the day at the 1976 Olympic Stadium and Mont Tremblant. Olympians Trisha Smith, Denis Barré and Jean-Francois Monette carried the torch around the perimeter of the stadium, with a host of sport enthusiasts and fans in tow. The highlight of the day was Morette lighting the 1976 Summer Games cauldron, reliving memories of Canada’s first Olympic Games.
The following day, covered in a fresh blanket of snow, Montreal saw a host of Olympians and other personalities carry the flame.
From Montreal the relay has taken its course through Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara Falls and most recently along the shores of Lake Superior.
