Olyroos training ahead of Argentina clash

"We Want A Medal"

They are the words of Olyroos coach Graham Arnold ahead of the Aussie campaign in Japan.

It all starts tonight at the Sapporo Dome on the Japanese Island of Hokkaido against the talented Argentinian team.

The excitement for the Under 23 Australian outfit is stepped up a notch by the fact they haven’t had a presence at the Olympic Games since 2008.

The Olyroos best finish is fourth at the 1992 games in Barcelona, their first up opponents Argentina on the other hand took gold in 2004 and 2008.

There’s no Lionel Messi in this Argentinian team but they are still very strong with Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister their headline act.

The Australian team is full of spark in the forwards with the brilliant Daniel Arzani joined by the goal scoring experience of overage player Mitch Duke along with Nick D’Agostino and Reno Piscopo.

Argentina in the past have brought the best out in Australian outfits who could forget that 1993 clash at Allianz Stadium when Maradona’s team was held to a 1-1 draw.

Former Olyroos coach Aurelio Vidmar with the famous equaliser.

If the Olyroos are to leave Japan with a medal they have to get off to a fast start against the South Americans.

It’s a tough group with the might of Egypt and European giants Spain.

Olyroos v Argentina kicks-off at 8:30pm (AEST) as is live on Seven & 7plus.
