O’Neill bows out of Men’s Street Skateboarding

Dual Olympic skateboarder Shane O’Neill has bowed out of the men’s Street Skateboarding, after a tough day at the office saw him finish with a score 107.50, putting him outside of the top eight finalists.

His first two runs didn’t go to plan, but he managed to score a 91.00 on one of his five tricks.

Despite not qualifying through to the final, the 34-year-old who hails from Melbourne, was pleased to be representing his country once again with strong crowd support.

“Awesome crowd here, a lot of different people from around the world came because they couldn’t make it to the last Olympics, so it was really cool,” Shane said.

“We’re kind of used to it [the crowds], and lucky that we get to skate in events that have similar vibes to this but it was awesome.”

Commenting on his performance today, O’Neill said he appreciated the crowd getting behind him for his final tricks.

“The way the format is…if you mess your first runs up it’s kind of hard to come back so it was tough,” he said.

“It’s all in good fun, and at that point of the contest it was all over for me so it was just fun from there.”
