Emanuel Oppliger and Emily Thomas were the leading Ski and Snowboard Australia riders at the Snowboard World Championships, Oppliger finishing in 18th place in parallel giant slalom and Thomas taking 22nd place in snowboard cross.
Oppliger missed a place in the 16-man PGS finals round by just half a second. In a two run qualification format, he recorded a total time of one minute 23.76 seconds, .57 of a second behind the 16th fastest qualifier Rok Flander of Slovenia.
In nine previous World Cup appearances, the best result the 29-year-old Australian/Swiss rider has produced has been 38th in parallel slalom earlier this season and 42nd in PGS in October 2003.
Thomas led the Australian challenge in the snowboard cross, recording one minute 50.13 seconds for her fastest run in the two run qualification round. She missed the 16-woman final by 2.99 seconds, placing 22nd in a field of 41 riders.
Damon Haylor was the best of the Australian men in the SBX, finishing in 29th place.
