CYCLING: Former world champion Glenn O'Shea headlines a strong 13-rider field that will contest the 2016 Australian Omnium Championship at the Adelaide Super-Drome, December 16-17.
Also lining up in Miles Scotson who claimed the bronze medal last year, former winner Scott Law and Sam Welsford and Rohan Wight the silver medallists at the last two Junior Track World Championships.
Three time winner and 2012 world champion Glenn O'Shea last pulled on the national champions jersey in the omnium in 2013 and heading in to an Olympic year is keen to again finish on the top step.
At the 2015 UCI Track World Championships in Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines, France, in February O'Shea claimed the silver medal, his third medal in four years.
"I am eager to try and win the omnium national title," O'Shea said. "The last couple of years it hasn't really fit into my program that well but this year it is a big goal for me to do well.
Like Edmondson, O'Shea started his track season in New Zealand earlier this month, claiming bronze in the omnium after helping Australia claim gold in the men's team pursuit.
"I was reasonably happy with my performance in New Zealand. I had a couple events that I didn't really ride up to my normal standards but I was very happy with how I fought back over the second day to make it onto the podium.
"With the Olympics next year every time you get the opportunity to put your hand up you need to take it. The 2016 Omnium National Championships are one of those opportunities."
