BIATHLON: Olympian Alex Almoukov has recorded a personal best overnight at the World Cup biathlon event in Sochi, Russia. 

Almoukov contested the men's 20km individual event on the Sochi course ahead of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. He posted a personal best, shooting clean and finishing in 33rd position in a time 53:36.5, an Olympic-qualifying time.

With the temperature hovering around 0 degrees and minimal wind, winner Martin Fourcade (FRA) skied fast, shooting 1+0+0+0 in a final time of 49:46.6, just 6.9 seconds ahead of second placegetter Andi Burnbach (GER), who shot clean.

Third place went to Serhiy Semenov (UKR), who also shot clean and finished 31.9 seconds behind Fourcade.
