SHOOTING: Warren Potent has claimed Australia's second medal of the Rio test event after winning 50m Rifle Prone silver at the home of the 2016 Games.

Named to compete at his fifth Olympic Games just a fortnight ago, Potent claimed his second podium finish in less than two months after also winning silver at the ISSF World Cup event in Bangkok in March.

The 54-year old Sydneysider moved through the elimination phase in 15th before shooting an equal second best total of 626.6 to claim a spot in the eight-man final. 

He led through the early stages of the final before Henri Junghaenel of Germany edged past Potent to take the gold with Serbia's Pletikosic finishing with the bronze medal.

"I feel good," said Potent after the medal ceremony.

"I shot consistently for the whole day and I had to fight in the second half of the final. I’m happy with my performance and proud to be taking home a medal. Looking forward to the Olympics!"

A bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2014 world champion, Potent is the current world number one in the 50m prone and will be well in contention for another Olympic medal in August.

Australia's final two shooters at the test event will be Paul Adams and Keith Ferguson in the men's skeet event.
